Job Description
The Junior Designer’s role is to provide design, production, and coordination support through all phases of projects. The Junior Designer shares responsibility for the overall success of projects, delivery of value to our clients, and promoting the company ethos and standards both in and out of the office.
Design
Creatively collaborate with Senior Designer and design team
Assist with production of presentation collateral necessary for effectively selling concepts and design.
Assist in production of schemes, space plans, furniture layouts, elevations, and any required interior programming.
Apply understanding of scale, proportion, and spatial layout to all design elements.
Demonstrate familiarity with design references – historical, vintage, contemporary, interior, architectural, product.
Research/Source design components relevant to established project parameters.
Cultivate relationships with relevant galleries, vendors, and industry trades suitable to our office.
Contribute to team and studio library with up-to-date knowledge of current design industry trends, editorials, materials/products, design/antique fairs, and trade shows.
Be open and collaborate within a fluctuating, unconventional, and unique aesthetic design environment.
Production
Assist in production of multiple {4-6} projects through all phases from programming and concept to design development, purchasing, and installation in collaboration with Design Team.
Assist in production of design sketches, 2D and 3D elevations, plans, construction documents, detailed specifications, redlines, or other essential design documentation for project requirements and construction methods.
Assist in facilitating custom fabrication projects, managing vendor communication, and documentation of all design details.
Aid in coordination of project meetings, meeting agenda development, and communication with architects, consultants, contractors, millworkers, and vendors.
Participate in site work, construction administration, workroom visits, and project installations. Travel as necessary.
Assist Principal and Senior Designer during client presentations.
Generate meeting notes, project drawings, finish schedules, budgets, quotes. Organize project information using office file standards.
Observe calendars and established project milestones to complete projects efficiently and on time.
Assist in tracking project budgets to ensure alignment with client expectations.
Prepare proposals and manage the procurement process to meet budget projections and deadlines.
Facilitate all phases of purchasing. Request quotes and samples. Manage expediting.
Assist with scheduling installations and coordinating subcontractors, vendors, and deliveries as needed.
Assist with organization of the material library as needed.
Provide administrative support and collaborate with Studio Coordinator and Studio Director as needed.
Client / Team / Vendor Relations
Demonstrate a high level of customer service with professionalism.
Participate in cultivating a positive and collaborative team environment. Foster trust, teamwork, accountability, and growth.
Develop and maintain relationships with vendors and fabricators and explore opportunities for partnerships with new manufacturers, artists, dealers, galleries, and distributors.
Confidently represent and promote the studio brand in all interactions.
Essential Skills
Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a design position with a contemporary residential design firm.
Industry-recognized education/background in Interior Design, Interior Architecture, or Architecture.
Excellent customer service and communication skills.
Knowledge of residential interior architecture and design industry standards.
Knowledge of methods/process/manufacturing for upholstery, drapery/soft goods, carpet qualities, and installation methods.
Knowledge of art, decorative arts, accessories, tableware, flatware, collecting, and craft.
Developed presentation skills - verbal, written, and graphic.
Experience in AutoCAD, SketchUp, Adobe Creative Suite & MS Office.
Experience with Studio Designer software or similar.
